A corporate gift can start with a product.
But sometimes, the real challenge is figuring out how to present it.
For EcoWorld's Chinese New Year annual dinner, the team already knew what they wanted to give their guests: premium tea bags.
The tea was chosen.
The gift was ready.
But there was one problem.
They couldn't find the right packaging.
And with the Chinese New Year annual dinner approaching quickly, there wasn't enough time to order a suitable packaging solution from China.
That's when they came to JINI Studio.
Instead of trying to find an existing packaging product, we developed something specifically for the occasion — a festive 元宝 (yuanbao) inspired gift pack, handmade in Malaysia using red and gold embroidery paper, an EcoWorld gold logo and high-quality 550 paracord.
The result was a Chinese New Year corporate gift that felt festive, premium and distinctly personal.
When the Gift Is Ready, But the Packaging Isn't
This is a situation we see quite often in corporate merchandise.
The client already knows what they want to give.
The challenge is finding the right way to package it.
For EcoWorld, the gift was premium tea bags intended for guests at their Chinese New Year annual dinner.
The packaging needed to feel:
Festive
Premium
Suitable for Chinese New Year
Aligned with the EcoWorld brand
Practical to carry
Special enough for an annual dinner gift
There was also another important constraint:
Time.
The original idea of sourcing packaging from China was no longer practical because the timeline was too short.
So instead of waiting for an overseas supplier, we asked:
What can we create here in Malaysia?
Creating a Chinese New Year-Inspired Gift Pack
The Chinese New Year theme immediately gave us a strong visual direction.
We wanted the packaging to feel celebratory without looking like generic festive packaging.
The inspiration came from the traditional 元宝 (yuanbao) shape — historically associated with wealth and prosperity.
We developed a festive red origami-style structure using red and gold embroidery paper.
The combination of red and gold immediately created the Chinese New Year feeling while giving the gift a more premium appearance.
But the details were what brought the whole piece together.
Red, Gold and EcoWorld
Colour was an important part of the design.
Red provided the festive foundation.
Gold added a premium touch.
And EcoWorld's gold logo was incorporated into the packaging so that the gift remained clearly connected to the brand.
Rather than placing a large logo across the product, we kept the branding integrated into the design.
The result was festive without feeling overly promotional.
That's an important consideration when designing corporate gifts for annual dinners and festive events.
People are receiving a gift, not an advertisement.
The Handle Wasn't an Afterthought
For the handle, we used high-quality 550 red paracord.
This small detail connected the gift back to our roots in handmade paracord products.
At JINI Studio, our creative merchandise work comes from years of experience through KD Goods, our Malaysian handmade paracord brand.
We've spent years experimenting with paracord as a material — from lanyards and phone straps to keychains, charms and other functional accessories.
So when we looked at this packaging, we didn't see the paracord simply as a piece of string.
We saw an opportunity to make the handle part of the design.
The red paracord reinforced the festive colour palette while also giving the gift pack a practical way to carry it.
A Premium Gift Without Waiting for Overseas Production
One of the most useful parts of this project was that we were able to develop and produce the customised packaging locally.
The client had a tight timeline.
Waiting for a custom packaging order from China would have added uncertainty to the project.
Instead, we worked with the materials and production capabilities available to us in Malaysia.
This is one of the advantages of working with a local creative merchandise studio.
When timelines are tight, being able to design, prototype, customise and coordinate production locally can make a significant difference.
From Packaging Problem to Corporate Gift Experience
The finished piece did more than hold the tea bags.
It changed how the gift was perceived.
A premium tea bag placed inside a standard box would have been a nice gift.
But placing it inside a carefully designed Chinese New Year 元宝-inspired handmade gift pack made the presentation part of the experience.
The packaging itself became something worth noticing.
And because it was designed specifically for EcoWorld's annual dinner, it felt much more considered than an off-the-shelf festive gift box.
Why Custom Packaging Matters
Corporate gifting is often discussed in terms of the product.
But presentation can be just as important.
